I think it all really depends on the stakes you want to play. You can get in and play for a couple hundred and turn it in to a few thousand. My best win was 200 into 13 thousand. Then you could take those thousands and play for more thousands and be well on your way. Poker pro doesnt really say how much money they have, there are many pros that are broke. But the only ones you hear about are the ones playing for millions.

If you play poker for a living, you are a professional poker player.

It's not about how much money you start with, but more about how experienced you are, and how much are you willing to dive in with.

To be honset, i just slipped into playing poker professionaly. I was playing whilst working and gradually starting winning more and more, my bankroll was at around $25k before i decided i wanted to try it professionally. I just quit my job and never looked back.

Ideally, you should have around maybe $50k of winnings from low/mid stakes in order to take a shot at going pro. If you luckbox a tournament i dont think its enough "proof" that your good enough to give it a shot.

For me the decision was the only decision.

I'm a professional as well as TJ, my site is Dealt to Hero - Tips from a professional online poker player.

You're actually asking the wrong question, because if you are a winning enough player then you'll already have the money. So by asking this question, I can assume you're not a winning player. TJ Cookier's post explains how a lot of pros do it (even myself!): pretty soon you're winning so much that you don't need your "real job" anymore.

So to go pro, the best thing to do is treat poker like a night job, and when that night job starts making more money than your day job for many months in a row, that's when you go pro.

I am just a poker player. It takes me a long time to become a pro. becoming pro is not easy. Every player who plays daily for hours cannot be a pro. he needs years of practice in game and lot of games played.
