I need to find a good place to place for just small change with people that can help me learn. I guess that's a pretty tall order, though, right? |

| | | Well let start off saying there is a diifference between pot limit and limit, cause there was some people saying pot limit further down on the post. I started out playing limit and did quit well. But I was starting out so my stragity was really to play paint cards and and premium cards and play super tight which worked out for me but then found NL. I havent played limit in a while, but I think there are still some rules of thumb that you need to stay by. Stay away from getting into situation in early or out of position, your starting hands requirments need to be pretty strong if you are gonna play that early. Now we all know limit is pretty much a drawing game and people call down to the river and get lucky. Well we have to do the same, but we want to be late postion with drawing hands and we want the pots to be huge. If you are gonna play 9hTh I would rather play that hand in position with alot of people in the pot versus in early position, you are gonna wanna be in decent positon with a decent amount of callers so if you do hit you want the pot to be huge. Obvously premuim hands have to be played accordingly if you AA and you got 6 people in the hand the really diminishes your chances of winning so any big action on the flop or turn is probably merit to throw your hand away, If some how you can get down to one or two handed depending on the flop ,its a pretty strong hand.
There are alot of aspect of limit, but I do think there are some rules you need to stay by. So I hope this helped a little bit. Doesnt peppermil or eldorado have NL?
Thanks

| | | I'm not an expert, but I do remember playing a lot of limit in school. I also played a lot of seven card stud at the Casino Arizona, and that was always limit as well.
From my experience limit is a drawing game, it's good for people who want to play every hand.
The way you make limit pay for you, is you have to recognize hands where you have an advantage and make people pay to play them. Betting the limit early is a good way to get people out if they are drawing. Position is also important. Just remember, even though it's a drawing game, if you can learn to throw away garbage hands you will do well, at least that's how I play. Throw low hands away and spend the time watching the other players. |

Then you need to know how to bet after you catch something to get others to want to continue playing the hand. I find PL very aggravating. |

| | | Is there a difference between limit and pot limit?
The limit I know is where there is a set amount you can raise, and obviously you can't go all in.
Is this the same or different from pot limit? |

| | | Limit is a sturctured set amount like like 2-4. Pre flop is $2, flop is $2, turn is $4, river is $4. But you only raise in increments of 2 or 4 depending what betting round it is. so eg. on the flop you can only bet and reraise up to $8 per person. River you can only raise up $16. So say you bet $2, someone raises $2, you reraise $2, and he reraise $2. So you both put in $8 thats the max for that round.
For pot limit its totaly different you can bet the amount of pot at any time, so its not stuctured. If there is $20 in the pot you can bet that amount. So the betting amount is limited to the amount in the pot.
But there is a thing called spread limit that smaller poker houses play. Say like $1-$12 spread. So can bet anything in between $1-$12 at any round. This is fun cause you can make it $9 preflop to pretect your hand better.
Thanks

| | | Thanks Salt that makes a lot of sense.
I think the basic strategy for limit games is pretty much the same. Be the guy at the table with enough self control to throw away garbage hands.
Bet hard on hands that you think you can win.
Once you've won some respect for that at the table, use that respect to steal blinds and intimidate people.
At least that's how I like to play.

| | | Yeah I am likeing Omaha H/L now. But, if I couldnt play NL, then I would rather play pot limit cause you can protect your hand a little better.
Thanks

| | | Limit, in my opinion, stands for limiting player's ability. Sure, you can maneuver within the limits of the table, betting up to the limit. Chances are, though, that the limit to too small to make other people let go of their crummy hands. Therein lies the problem with limit, they limit the number of people who get outplayed and let them go ahead and catch their inside draw on the river. I used to play limit when it was the only thing I could find, but I have found so much more fortune when playing at no limit tables. This is because you have more freedom and you are able to actually put people on the line and question their strategy with your bets. |

| | | I was lost there for a while but now I see there was a spammer! Darn Spam!
I prefer no limit, you know as long as everyone knows what they are doing and are comfortable why not?
If there is a varied level of play I can see why there should be a limit, it levels the field a little but mostly keeps the "higher skilled" from bulling their way to a win.
