Question Questions about limit

I personally prefer no limit, and am quite good at it might I add. Here is my dilemma: the place where I go to play poker where I live will only go to no limit if everyone at the table decides that is what they want to do, other than that they play 5/10. I know the rules on playing that although I don't think that I really get the concept. I get stomped all the time. And even if I play just to see what flops I can't get anywhere. Does anyone have any strategies that might improve my limit game?

I think when it comes to pot limit the trick is to always see the flop.

Lol, I tried that once and lost a ton of money. It seems like everyone stays in and raises on garbage and then whoever happens to be luckiest in the night rivers it again and again.

as for the initial question though, i've never been a fan of pot limit, it just turns out exactly the way you said it does, its just a lottery, i don't think theres much skill in it, because everyone stays in till the end, and it doesn't matter how good your opening hand was you can't control it,

with no limit you can show more intent as to what your cards are hiding or not, and then the game is about more than luck, its a skill, sure luck does still come into it when you have pocket aces and the flop turns a 10 j and then you get beaten by a straight,

I guess I'm too new to the game to really understand the differences in the game as far as limit is concerned. I just get the basics and i'm playing for pretend money. Hopefully eventaully i'll get into it as much as you guys are. It's almost like a different language.
