Default Poker Face

Well i must say I have a decent poker face, but i don't understand the point of glasses. I had a friend who wore oakleys during a game and after viewing his hand five different hands in a row, I had to tell him. I like to have my eyes hidden also, but please people make sure there is no reflection. It takes away the fun.

Many professionals wear sunglasses to prevent reading "tells". It has been said that "the eyes are the window to your soul"....But, they can also give clues as to whether you are bluffing or nervous.

So, wearing sunglasses prevents people from reading your eyes.

I have even seen some nice poker hosts supply sunglasses for people who forgot them, if they want.

You will also notice that many wear sunglasses and a baseball cap. This is to prevent people from seeing raised eyebrows, etc.

So you were actually seeing his hand in the reflection of his sunglasses. That is too funny. At least it was your friend though. Im sure if that happened in a casino a group of strangers wouldnt say anything to him and just keep taking his money. By the way, I think the whole sunglasses and hat thing is stupid anyways.

Don't forget mirrors will reflect at specific angles. So, if people keep their cards near the table and peak at them like they do on TV poker tournements, then other players will not be able to see your hole cards.

First of all, if the cards did reflect in sunglasses, the angle would be wrong and the reflection would only be seen if you sat on the cieling.

In addition, the curve of the sunglasses (wrap around style frames) will act as a concave mirror which will make the reflection so, small and so fast, that no person will ever see anything in the sunglass reflection.

If you do not believe me...try looking in a mirror or video tape yourself while wearing sunglasses and peak at a card on the table....you will not be able to see any readable reflection in your sunglasses.

BOTTOM LINE: If you did see card reflections, the person was silly and held the card up in the air, right in front of their face to reflect the cards well....Most people will find that sunglasses are more of a help to prevent people from reading tells. Why do you think so many people wear sunglasses in the WSOP, etc.

They say if you can read a persons eyes you can read his next move and what hes thinking. If you can do all this just but looking into someones eyes, or somone doing it to me, wouldnt you want to protect that? I sure would and I do I wear my glasses at the table all the time and no never had any problems with reflections at all.

unless your really great at poker.. reading someone eyes will rarely help you. eyes kinda do their own thing. perhaps this person doesnt like people looking at them and just look away and you think this is weakness and push, then they showthe nuts. Then the same thing happens and you take him as strong from last time and fold and he shows a bluff. Could go either way. Tells are tells but dont mistake them between body language. Some one could be shifty because of hemroids not because they are weak and shifting around. Dont read too much into things and let your gut tell you what to do.

I personally find it amusing when someone sits down at the table with a baseball cap and sunglasses. I mean, we're indoors here! Usually the entire table pokes fun at the person..

I agree that in some environments, sunglasses and a baseball cap may look out of place. But, in other environments, like the World Series of Poker it is normal because it reduces the odds that other people at the table can read "tells".

See eye movement, reactions, etc.

I guess the bottom line is to make sure that you "fit in" with your crowd...or in once case I heard that someone bought singlasses and baseball caps for everyone so no one person would look different.

I think this is extream...but, an interesting idea :-)

I don't know. You can fake tells to use them to your advantage. Like looking like you completely missed the flop but in reality you just flopped the nuts. And everyone knows this. So the disguises really aren't necessary in this day and age of poker.
